The Department  Information Technology has a distinguished history of delivering quality education established in 2001 with the introduction of the B.Sc. Information Technology programme. The department is a pioneer in equipping students with the essential skills required to excel in the ever-evolving tech industry.

In 2007, the department expanded its academic horizon by launching the M.Sc. Information Technology programme, addressing the growing demand for advanced knowledge in IT. The department is equipped with state-of-the-art laboratories that provide students with hands-on experience in the latest technologies, helping  them to develop practical skills in programming, software development, networking and related areas.

With a strong emphasis on both theoretical understanding and practical application, the department ensures that students are well-prepared to meet contemporary industry challenges. The experienced and dedicated faculty members play a vital role in fostering an environment that promotes innovation, research and academic excellence.

The department has a well-equipped PG laboratory and a separate research laboratory. The Ph.D. programme in Information Technology was introduced in 2018, that  further strengthen the department’s commitment to research and academic excellence. The department also has a dedicated team of scholars actively engaged in research areas such as Image Processing, Data Compression, Networks, Software Engineering and Information Security.
