The Department of Microbiology at Sri Ram Nallamani Yadava College of Arts and Science was established in 1995 with the introduction of the B.Sc. Microbiology programme. The department was founded with the vision of imparting quality education, fostering innovative research, and cultivating scientific excellence in the field of life sciences. Over the years, it has evolved into a vibrant academic and research hub, dedicated to producing skilled microbiologists capable of addressing global scientific and industrial challenges.

In 2007, the department expanded its academic offerings by introducing the M.Sc. Microbiology programme, providing students with in-depth knowledge in areas such as microbial physiology, immunology, molecular biology, and biotechnology. The postgraduate curriculum emphasizes hands-on training and research-based learning, supported by state-of-the-art laboratories.

In 2015, the department achieved a major milestone with the introduction of the M.Phil. Microbiology programme enhancing its research capacity. This was followed by the establishment of a recognized Research Centre in 2018, marking a proud achievement in the department’s academic journey.

The Department features modern, well-ventilated classrooms, sophisticated laboratories, and a  departmental library stocked with the latest reference books, research journals, laboratory manuals, and e-resources. The academic environment is clean, organized, and conducive to research and innovation. The department continously upgrades its laboratory facilities and the infrastructure to meet current scientific standards and to promote excellence.

The undergraduate, postgraduate, and research programmes are meticulously designed to combine the core principles of microbiology with emerging scientific advancements. Every year, the department consistently produces University Rank Holders and Gold Medalists, with outstanding achievements recorded during 2021–2024, reflecting its commitment to academic excellence.
